Session III provides the audience with definitions for health system strengthening (HSS) and describe two innovations in which MEASURE Evaluation addresses the need for both measuring health system strengthening and improving the sustained availability of quality health information. This session includes an activity in which the audience will envision the future of health in low-resource countries.

Strengthening the M&E of Health Systems Strengthening – David Hotchkiss

Improved guidance is needed to carryout prospective monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of HSS interventions at the national and local levels. This presentation describes the process undertaken to develop a guide to prospectively monitor and evaluate the performance of health systems and the implementation of targeted HSS initiatives.

Strengthening Health Information Systems in Latin America & Caribbean – Beatriz Plaza

Lack of data quality and use, technical, financial and human resources, data standards, and capacity building along with the existence of parallel health information systems drove the development of regional collaboration through the Latin American and Caribbean Network for Health Information Systems (RELACSIS). This presentation describes the county-led and country-owned processes institutionalized within RELACSIS.
