About the HISS Resource Center

FS-17-202A strong health information system (HIS) is essential to produce available, accurate, and useful information for informed policy and programmatic decision making. This Health Information System Strengthening Resource Center has been developed to explore and share what works to strengthen HIS and build the evidence about how strengthened HIS improves health outcomes.

This effort is part of MEASURE Evaluation’s Learning Agenda, which seeks to answer the following questions:

  • What are the factors and conditions of progress in HIS performance?
  • What are the stages of progression to a strong HIS and how are they measured?
  • What are the characteristics of a strong HIS?

MEASURE Evaluation has launched an effort to systematically explore these questions using internal project expertise, external stakeholders, and in-country experts working in HIS strengthening on a daily basis. The Resource Center serves as an online repository of learning, information sharing, and resources for HIS development and strengthening. In this space you’ll find an HIS strengthening model, performance outcome indicators, profiles on the status of HIS strengthening in selected countries, a searchable HIS assessment tool database, links to the Health Data Collaborative and HIS regional networks, and an annotated bibliography of HIS literature and resources.

A catalog of current and forthcoming materials developed through MEASURE Evaluation’s work on the Learning Agenda is available here.
