HIV Care and Support

MEASURE Evaluation undertook a large scale public health evaluation of palliative care programs in Uganda and Kenya. The study was carried out by King's College London in conjunction with the African Palliative Care Association in Uganda and the Kenya Hospice and Palliative Care Association. The study provided two levels of information based on evaluations in the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) sites: individual patient longitudinal information was examined for associations with clinical and quality of life outcomes in six sites in Kenya and six sites in Uganda; and, facility-level profiles of six hundred programs in each country to assist in identifying program-level areas for success and/or improvement. This was the first public health evaluation of palliative care in emergency plan supported programs.
