Lessons and Approaches to Support the Capacity-Strengthening Priorities of Local Partners
Data for Impact (D4I) is hosting a one-hour webinar, on April 5 at 9 a.m. EDT, to share experience from multiple projects in adapting and managing tools to strengthen the capacity of organizations in low- and medium-resource countries to conduct public health programs independently.
D4I is a five-year (2018–2023) project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to generate evidence, facilitate the use of data for decision making, and build the capacity of local organizations to increase their self-reliance.
In 2018, USAID launched the Journey to Self-Reliance, which, along with the 2019 Country Operational Plans of the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), calls for countries to play a greater role in management of health funds and delivery of healthcare services.
Preparing countries and local groups to operate more independently requires tools to assess and strengthen capacity and to inform and monitor capacity-strengthening interventions. This webinar will present a collection of relevant experience using tools to achieve these ends.
Heidi Reynolds, director, D4I, will introduce and moderate the topic. Mounia Msefer, senior technical advisor with D4I partner John Snow, Inc. (JSI), will describe JSI’s experiences with organizational capacity assessments, including USAID’s Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA) tool, and in adapting tools for different contexts. Nicole Judice, senior technical advisor, Health Policy Plus, Palladium, will describe that project’s experience adapting the OCA and other tools to strengthen and advance health policies in low- and middle-income countries. Stephanie Watson-Grant, director of field operations at MEASURE Evaluation, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will share her project’s experiences developing a framework for assessing, planning, and monitoring efforts to strengthen capacity for evaluation skills.
