New Training Partner for Asia and Near East Region: Public Health Foundation of India

New regional training and capacity building partnership with Public Health Foundation of India

MEASURE Evaluation is pleased to announce the establishment of a new regional training and capacity building partnership with the New Delhi-based Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). In July 2008, PHFI and MEASURE Evaluation agreed to establish a partnership for developing and implementing training programs in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and for mutually strengthening each partners' capacity to conduct M&E activities.

PHFI joins other MEASURE Evaluation regional training partners - University of Pretoria in South Africa, Centre Africain Etudes Superieures en Gestion (CESAG) in Senegal, Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica (INSP) in Mexico, Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, and Mahidol University in Thailand. The ultimate goal is that the regional training partners establish themselves as centers of excellence in M&E for their regions.

MEASURE Evaluation and PHFI are currently engaged in finalizing a scope of work for the first year of the partnership. It may include development of curricula for short courses and master's level M&E training, as well as the design and implementation in 2009 of a regional workshop on impact evaluation, aimed at strengthening the capacity of professionals involved in M&E of population, health and nutrition programs in the Asia region.

MEASURE Evaluation's capacity building work is designed to improve program planning and decision-making, thus improving health systems and health status. MEASURE Evaluation has established partnerships with universities and research centers to offer short-term and master's-level training programs in M&E. In 2008, regional training events were held in Ethiopia, Mexico, Thailand, Senegal, and South Africa. Other training workshops were held in 17 countries. Also, MEASURE Evaluation-sponsored M&E master's degree students are enrolled at Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand; University of Pretoria, South Africa; and Instituto Nacional de Salud Pública Cuernavaca, Mexico.
